Connecting Early Career Professionals in Ecological Restoration
YOUNG#ER is a network aiming to connect ecological restoration students and early-career professionals across Europe, empowering them to participate in restoration efforts, whilst sharing their experience and knowledge in an informal and supportive environment.

RECENT OUTPUTS
As a result of our involvement in the YOUNG#ER group of SERE, one of our members was invited to co-organize a workshop entitled “The Role of Emerging Scientists in Restoration Ecology” as part of the virtual component of the 10th World Conference on Ecological Restoration in 2023.
Following this workshop, we published a paper in which we explore the roles and challenges faced by emerging scientists in restoration ecology, drawing insights from the SER2023 conference. Our findings highlight their vital contributions to the scientific process and address the limited funding opportunities that hinder their professional growth. We emphasize the importance of supporting these professionals to cultivate future leaders within the Society for Ecological Restoration (SER) and advocate for non-hierarchical, inclusive networking to engage and empower them—ultimately enhancing the long-term success of ecological restoration efforts.
