Five days bridging science, policy, and practice

From 24 to 28 August 2026, Brest became Europe’s capital of ecological restoration, welcoming more than 650 researchers, practitioners, policymakers, and students from 52 countries.

Across plenaries, special sessions, training courses, and field trips, delegates shared the latest science and practical experience on restoring Europe’s wetlands, rivers, forests, agricultural land, cities, coastlines, and seas. The conference took place at a pivotal moment, as EU Member States prepare to submit their National Restoration Plans under the Nature Restoration Regulation, and that context ran through the week’s discussions.

Field trips across Brittany brought the science into the landscape, from coastal dunes and depoldered marshes to peatlands, rivers, and the restoration of the night sky itself, showcasing one of Europe’s most engaged regions for ecological recovery.
