On 13 October 2026 SER-Europe hosted an expert review webinar on the draft Best Practice Guidelines for Peatland Restoration, an output of the ALFAwetlands project and part of the Nature Restoration Guidelines series.
This session brought together researchers and academics, students, policymakers and authorities, and consultants and advisors to review the draft Peatland Restoration Best Practice Guideline Tool. Together they assessed whether the guidance is technically accurate and useful, and whether it is user-friendly and effective for education and training.
The webinar included an introduction to the ALFAwetlands project (Dr. Liisa Ukonmaanaho, Project Coordinator, Luke), a presentation of the Guideline Tool (Maud Rahman, INBO), a review of the financial aspects of peatland restoration (Marie Lorenz, Michael Succow Foundation), and two breakout groups examining the technical content and the educational value of the guidance, closing with recommendations to strengthen it.
