Europe on the path to the first Nature Restoration Law globally
A long awaited moment arrived this June 22 with the presentation by EU Vice-president Frans Timmermans and Environment Commissioner Virginijus Sinkevicius of the proposal for an EU Nature Restoration Law (NRL). This will be a legally binding regulation for all Member States, not a directive but a regulation of direct application when approved.
SER Europe has been following closely the preparatory steps for this proposal, and your contribution with signing the Declaration on the NRL last Autumn indeed helped in this process. SERE has been acknowledged as a key stakeholder in this process, and this is also a direct acknowledgement to the entire ecological restoration community across Europe.
The next steps towards the final approval of the NRL will be at the European Parliament and the European Council. SER Europe will closely follow and contribute with science towards the best final text for the law. Throughout this process we welcome you contribution at all times at info@ser-europe.org.
