SUMMARY:Peatland Restoration: Expert Review of the Best Practice Guidelines (ALFAwetlands)
DESCRIPTION:Join SER-Europe for an expert review webinar on the draft Best Practice Guidelines for Peatland Restoration\, an output of the ALFAwetlands project and part of the Nature Restoration Guidelines series by Research Institute for Nature and Forest. \nThis session brings together practitioners\, land managers\, decision-makers\, and investors to review the draft guidelines and the accompanying Peatland Restoration Best Practice Guideline Tool. Together we will assess whether the guidance is technically accurate and useful\, and whether it is user-friendly and effective for education and training. \nThe webinar will include an introduction to the ALFAwetlands project\, and a presentation of the Guideline Tool\, and two facilitated discussion groups examining the technical content and the educational value of the guidance\, closing with recommendations to strengthen it. \nYour expertise will directly shape the final guidelines. We look forward to your contribution. \nFunded by the European Union. Views and opinions expressed are however those of the author(s) only and do not necessarily reflect those of the European Union or CINEA. Neither the European Union nor the granting authority can be held responsible for them. \n Register\n\nSpeaker: Maud Raman \nSenior Scientist·Research Institute for Nature and Forest (INBO) \n\nMaud Raman is a researcher with the Research Institute for Nature and Forest (INBO)\, working in the Environment & Climate team. Her work focuses on ecosystem restoration\, ecosystem functioning in relation to environmental pressures and climate change\, and climate adaptation. Maud has extensive experience in project development and management\, ecological sampling and modelling using R. She is also interested in the interface between science and policy\, with a particular focus on developing effective strategies and communication tools to support the uptake of scientific knowledge.

SUMMARY:COP-17 side event | Ecosystem Restoration in Working Seas: Delivering on GBF Target 2 with Fisheries
DESCRIPTION:Side event at CBD COP-17\, the seventeenth meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity. \nTuesday 20 October 2026\, 11:30\nTalin Side-event Room 1 \nSER-Europe is proud to co-host this side event at CBD COP-17\, exploring how ecological restoration in working seas can help deliver Target 2 of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework alongside sustainable fisheries. \nDelivering Target 2 requires countries to move from ambition to implementation. In coastal and marine areas where fisheries remain central to food\, livelihoods\, and local economies\, that means treating restoration not only as an area commitment or a restriction on use\, but as a long-term change in the pressures\, decisions\, and relationships that shape a working sea. \nThe session moves beyond the idea that restoration is delivered only through closures or habitat protection\, examining the broader contributions fisheries can make across the restoration continuum: pressure reduction\, impact mitigation\, passive recovery\, active rebuilding\, monitoring\, gear innovation\, and stewardship. Fisheries and restoration experts will consider what makes fisheries-related restoration effective\, measurable\, and inclusive of production-sector actors: how restoration objectives translate into practical measures\, how fishers’ knowledge and data can support recovery\, how benefits and burdens can be shared equitably\, and how countries can recognise fisheries’ contributions in their national reports. \nBy connecting Target 2 with sustainable use\, food security\, and ecosystem-based fisheries management\, the event will help clarify how marine restoration can be designed not only for protected sites\, but for productive seascapes. \nCo-hosted by EBCD\, the CBD\, FAO\, IUCN-CEM-FEG\, DCEE\, EEA\, SER-Europe\, EDF\, and MSC. \n Learn more

SUMMARY:SeaWilding Conference: An ocean with rights: from knowledge to transformative action.
DESCRIPTION:The SeaWilding Conference is the largest interdisciplinary gathering devoted to ocean conservation and restoration in Southern Europe. Its second edition returns to Barcelona from 28 to 30 October 2026 with a single through-line: the shift from ocean-as-object to ocean-as-subject. \nOver three days\, in a single auditorium and with no parallel sessions\, the scientific community\, legal scholars\, managers\, ethics specialists\, funders\, and civil society build one shared conversation. It is structured around two axes\, the IPBES Transformative Change Report and the Rights of the Ocean\, under the principle of consilience: the unity of knowledge that makes it possible to move from diagnosis to action. \nThe aim is to translate scientific evidence and legal momentum into an agenda for restorative action\, and to consolidate Barcelona as an international hub for marine conservation\, in step with the UN Decade of Ocean Science\, the Kunming-Montreal 30×30 target\, and the European Mission “Restore our Ocean and Waters by 2030.” The conference is an endorsed activity of the UN Ocean Decade\, bringing together more than 20 speakers from science\, law\, ethics\, finance\, and communication. \nSER-Europe at the conference\nWe are pleased to share that two voices from the SER-Europe community are on the programme. Luca Jendrek\, Marine Restoration Project Officer at SER-Europe\, will speak on how science\, policy\, and stakeholder engagement combine to make marine restoration effective\, drawing on the REDRESS\, REBORN\, and Isla Bonita projects. Jordi Cortina-Segarra\, Professor of Ecology at the University of Alicante and former Chair of SER-Europe\, is also among the speakers. \nIf you are attending\, we warmly encourage you to join their sessions. \n Tickets Available Here
