SUMMARY:Deep-Sea Restoration Webinar Series: Knowing Where to Restore
DESCRIPTION:Identifying where to restore is one of the most complex and important challenges in deep-sea ecosystem recovery. As global efforts such as Mission Ocean and Waters accelerate action on ocean health\, the need for informed\, science-based decision-making is increasingly critical. \nThis webinar will explore how site selection\, ecological baselines\, and available data can guide effective deep-sea restoration. Drawing on insights from the REDRESS project\, speakers will share current approaches\, practical experiences\, and key uncertainties shaping restoration in these largely unexplored environments. \nThe session will examine how mapping tools\, ecological knowledge\, and emerging methodologies can support decision-making\, while also addressing technical\, environmental\, and governance considerations. Participants will gain insight into how restoration strategies can be designed to be both effective and adaptable across deep-sea contexts. \nThe webinar includes keynote presentations followed by a moderated panel discussion and audience Q&A via Slido\, creating space for exchange across science\, policy\, and practice. \nSpeakers and Panelists \n\nMurray Roberts (University of Edinburgh)\nSimone D’Alessandro (University of Edinburgh)\nRoberto Danovaro (Polytechnic University of Marche)\nAna Hilário (University of Aveiro)\nSabine Gollner (Royal Netherlands Institute for Sea Research – NIOZ)\n\nSubmit your questions for the speakers and panelists here. \n Register here\n\nComplete the registration form above to receive the webinar access link. \nEvent Details \n\nDate: 7 May 2026\nTime: 15:00 CET\nFormat: 90-minute interactive webinar\n\nGo to top\nThis webinar is pre-approved for 1 Continuing Education Credit (CEC) for CERPs and CERPITs.
